Mindfulness is associated to awareness. The two words go together in a fluent manner which creates a holistic balance in one's life. When deciding to make lifestyle changes to improve health and wellness, one must be aware of the habits and choices we make in which are not benefiting our health and well-being. This awareness allows for one to consider better habits and choices that will lead the way to meeting our health and wellness goals on the journey to a mindful lifestyle. When the new habits and choices have been determined, now mindfulness begins to take over.
Mindfulness is the daily effort to be aware of the choices and habits one is working on. Mindfulness is the thought and actions of constantly and consistently making an effort to improve one's health and well-being. Small actions and effort throughout the day add up to big results.
How do we choose and implement mindful habits? We go back to awareness. Awareness of how proper food portions, mindless eating in front of TV, emotional eating, nutrition choices, how much or little physical activity is done in a day or week, how much/little sleep, stress and anxiety, and the list goes on of how these factors effect our lives and then deciding which ones seem the most important to change in order to reach optimal health. If you eat dinner in front of the TV/cell phone then an simple mindful habit to change to would be to eat without any electronics at a dinner table. If sleep is an issue, begin with committing to a bedtime routine that includes going to bed and waking at the same time every night. If you have a busy schedule and can't seem to commit to a regular workout routine, then consider setting an alert on your phone for every hour to get up from your desk to stretch, take a quick walk, or take the stairs instead of the elevator. Being mindful of our choices throughout the day will bring quality habits to our life for an overall improved well-being.
